Richard T. Tinsley II

2017-2018 Junior High Conductor


Richard T. Tinsley II is the Director of Choral Activities at Oakcrest High School in Mays Landing, NJ. He received his B.M. in Music Education from Rowan University in 2013. During his tenure at Rowan University, Mr. Tinsley studied voice and was a dedicated member and section leader in the Rowan University Concert Choir. Mr. Tinsley is an active member of SJCDA, NAfME, NJMEA, and the ACDA.

 

At Oakcrest High School, Mr Tinsley is the director of the OHS Mixed Choir, OHS Select Choir, OHS Gospel Choir, OHS Women's Choir, O Boys & O Girls. His choirs have performed in the Atlantic County Teen Arts Festival and have been selected to numerous NJ State Teen Arts Festivals. The groups frequently perform in competition, recently earning Superiors at Music in the Parks as well as “Best in Class” and the “Gold Award” at Festival Disney.

 

A passionate teacher as well as conductor, Mr. Tinsley is deeply committed to working with young musicians. He is also the Vocal Director for the Oakcrest Center Stage Follies and has been the Percussion Instructor of the Oakcrest Marching Ambassadors since 2007. Mr. Tinsley earned the Dr. Dennis Foreman Novice Teacher Award for the 2015-2016 school year.

 

Outside of OHS, Mr. Tinsley is member of the New Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. There, he is the Sound Room Technician. He was recently awarded the MLK Community Chorus Dedicated Service Award by the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He is an active singer, percussionist, producer and sound engineer.

 

Mr. Tinsley is extremely excited about the opportunity to conduct the 56th South Jersey Junior High Chorus. He is a past member of the chorus and hopes to continue the long tradition of excellence that the choir has shown. He would like to express gratitude to Dr. Christopher B. Thomas (Rowan University), Dr. Beverly Vaughn (Stockton University) and the SJCDA for their guidance. Mr. Tinsley credits his family with introducing him to music and is very thankful for their love and support in all of his musical endeavors.
